Questions

## Frequently asked questions

[More in the knowledge base →](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/knowledge-base/)

What does the charger check check?

The charger check gives an indication of whether your situation is likely to qualify for an ERE payment. It looks at things like a suitable meter, verifiable charging data and ownership of the grid connection.

What is a MID meter?

A MID meter is a meter that complies with the European Measuring Instruments Directive and therefore measures reliably and verifiably. For private individuals a charge point with an integrated MID-certified meter is generally required.

Which charge points qualify?

Charge points with an integrated MID-certified meter that can deliver verifiable charging data. For private individuals this has applied since January 2026, with no transition year: a separate meter in the meter cupboard does not count. Only with an exclusive allocation point set up by the grid operator is no MID meter needed.

What if I don’t know which meter I have?

Then “I don’t know” is a perfectly fine answer; the check works even if you don’t know every detail. You’ll get a more cautious indication and can have it confirmed by the provider later.

Is the result a guarantee?

No, the result is an indication based on your answers, not a definitive commitment. The chosen provider ultimately confirms whether your charge point is suitable.

What do I need in order to take part?

In practice it comes down to verifiable charging data from a suitable meter and ownership or authorised use of the grid connection. The provider explains how you supply that data.

Does anything change in 2027?

Not for home charging: the integrated MID meter has been required for private individuals since January 2026. On 1 January 2027 only the transition year ends for businesses that were already booking with an external MID meter before 2026; after that, such a meter no longer counts for them either.
