# Kia electric cars

We cover 4 Kia models: 23,566 new registrations in the Netherlands in 2024 and 2025 combined, with consumption of 149 to 220 Wh/km (WLTP).

Short answer

As of October 18, 2026, at 15,000 km a year and all charged at home, a Kia earns about €275 to €405 a year in ERE, after the median commission of 20%. Consumption is 149 to 220 Wh/km (WLTP). Per kWh, earnings are the same for every car brand: €0.122.

Comparison

## Kia: Wh/km and ERE per year

Wh/km is the WLTP consumption from the EEA data. ERE per year at 15,000 km charged at home follows that consumption, rounded to €5. More Wh/km means fewer kilometres per kWh, more kWh charged at the same distance and therefore more ERE. That is not an advantage: each extra kWh earns about €0.12 in ERE but costs about €0.26 in electricity at home. A more efficient car is cheaper overall. Per kWh the brand does not change earnings.

ERE

## What does ERE earn with a Kia?

At 15,000 km a year, all charged at home, the Kia models here earn about €275 to €405 a year in ERE, after the median commission of 20%. That difference comes only from the measured consumption: the Kia EV3 at 149 Wh/km to the Kia EV9 at 220 Wh/km.

Per kWh, ERE earnings for a Kia are the same as for every other car brand. The brand does not change that amount. Since 1 January 2026, private users need a charger with a built-in MID meter. [Do the charger check](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/charger-check/)

Questions

## Questions about Kia

How much ERE does a Kia earn per year?

As of October 18, 2026, at 15,000 km a year and all charged at home, a Kia earns about €275 to €405 a year in ERE, after the median commission of 20%. Consumption is 149 to 220 Wh/km (WLTP). Per kWh, earnings are the same for every car brand: €0.122.

Which Kia models are listed here?

We cover 4 Kia models, in order of new registrations in the Netherlands in 2024 and 2025: the Kia EV3 (149 Wh/km, 11,055 registrations), the Kia Niro EV (162 Wh/km, 6,775 registrations), the Kia EV6 (166 Wh/km, 3,940 registrations) and the Kia EV9 (220 Wh/km, 1,796 registrations). 23,566 registrations combined (EEA).

Which Kia uses the least energy?

the Kia EV3 has the lowest consumption: 149 Wh/km (WLTP), the most kilometres per kWh of the Kia models here. the Kia EV9 has the highest consumption: 220 Wh/km. Lower consumption means fewer kWh charged at the same distance and therefore less ERE, not more. The brand does not change earnings per kWh.

How is the ERE figure for a Kia calculated?

At 15,000 km a year, all charged at home, after the median commission of 20%: about €275 (the Kia EV3, 149 Wh/km) to €405 (the Kia EV9, 220 Wh/km). That difference comes only from the measured consumption (Wh/km, so kilometres per kWh), not from the brand. Per kWh, earnings are the same for every car brand. Since 1 January 2026, private users need a charger with a built-in MID meter; public charging earns you no ERE.

Can I charge a Kia bidirectionally?

Not for the brand as a whole, and only as the source describes it per model. V2L: yes on every model in the data. V2H: no on every model in the data. V2G: pilot on the Kia EV9, no on the Kia EV3, the Kia Niro EV and the Kia EV6. Kia EV3: V2L with the optional EV Tech Pack or on higher trims: a socket under the second seat row, plus an external adapter on the GT-Line. V2H and V2G are not offered in the Netherlands. Kia Niro EV: The second-generation Niro EV has V2L: an interior socket and a charge-port adapter, depending on trim. Kia NL no longer appears to sell it new. No V2H or V2G. Kia EV6: V2L according to Kia NL, with an interior socket and, depending on trim, an external adapter. V2H and V2G are not offered in the Netherlands. Outside the Netherlands: In the US Kia is extending V2H via DC (with the Wallbox Quasar 2) to the EV6. Kia EV9: V2L on all trims, inside and via an adapter. V2G only in a closed Kia and Vattenfall pilot for about 40 EV9 drivers; sign-up closed on 14 June 2026. No V2H. Outside the Netherlands: In the US Kia offers V2H via DC, with the Wallbox Quasar 2 and a Power Recovery Unit. Sources: Kia NL, EV3, Kia NL, V2G-pilot, Hyundai Motor Group, Kia Ireland, V2L, Kia NL, Niro, ev-database.org, Kia NL, EV6, Kia NL, EV9, Vattenfall. Checked on October 6, 2026.

Does the car brand matter for ERE?

No. ERE depends on the kWh you charge at home and on the provider (the ERE price and the commission), never on the car brand. Per kWh, earnings for a Kia are the same as for every other brand: 0.33269 ERE per kWh, at €0.460 per ERE (October 18, 2026), after the median commission of 20%, which is €0.122 per kWh. A car with higher consumption (more Wh/km, fewer kilometres per kWh) charges more kWh at the same distance and therefore earns more ERE. That difference comes from the measured consumption, not from the brand.
