# Volvo electric cars

We cover 4 Volvo models: 31,193 new registrations in the Netherlands in 2024 and 2025 combined, with consumption of 166 to 209 Wh/km (WLTP).

Short answer

As of October 18, 2026, at 15,000 km a year and all charged at home, a Volvo earns about €305 to €385 a year in ERE, after the median commission of 20%. Consumption is 166 to 209 Wh/km (WLTP). Per kWh, earnings are the same for every car brand: €0.122.

Comparison

## Volvo: Wh/km and ERE per year

Wh/km is the WLTP consumption from the EEA data. ERE per year at 15,000 km charged at home follows that consumption, rounded to €5. More Wh/km means fewer kilometres per kWh, more kWh charged at the same distance and therefore more ERE. That is not an advantage: each extra kWh earns about €0.12 in ERE but costs about €0.26 in electricity at home. A more efficient car is cheaper overall. Per kWh the brand does not change earnings.

ERE

## What does ERE earn with a Volvo?

At 15,000 km a year, all charged at home, the Volvo models here earn about €305 to €385 a year in ERE, after the median commission of 20%. That difference comes only from the measured consumption: the Volvo EC40 at 166 Wh/km to the Volvo EX90 at 209 Wh/km.

Per kWh, ERE earnings for a Volvo are the same as for every other car brand. The brand does not change that amount. Since 1 January 2026, private users need a charger with a built-in MID meter. [Do the charger check](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/charger-check/)

Questions

## Questions about Volvo

How much ERE does a Volvo earn per year?

As of October 18, 2026, at 15,000 km a year and all charged at home, a Volvo earns about €305 to €385 a year in ERE, after the median commission of 20%. Consumption is 166 to 209 Wh/km (WLTP). Per kWh, earnings are the same for every car brand: €0.122.

Which Volvo models are listed here?

We cover 4 Volvo models, in order of new registrations in the Netherlands in 2024 and 2025: the Volvo EX30 (170 Wh/km, 16,065 registrations), the Volvo EX40 (169 Wh/km, 11,893 registrations), the Volvo EC40 (166 Wh/km, 2,217 registrations) and the Volvo EX90 (209 Wh/km, 1,018 registrations). 31,193 registrations combined (EEA).

Which Volvo uses the least energy?

the Volvo EC40 has the lowest consumption: 166 Wh/km (WLTP), the most kilometres per kWh of the Volvo models here. the Volvo EX90 has the highest consumption: 209 Wh/km. Lower consumption means fewer kWh charged at the same distance and therefore less ERE, not more. The brand does not change earnings per kWh.

How is the ERE figure for a Volvo calculated?

At 15,000 km a year, all charged at home, after the median commission of 20%: about €305 (the Volvo EC40, 166 Wh/km) to €385 (the Volvo EX90, 209 Wh/km). That difference comes only from the measured consumption (Wh/km, so kilometres per kWh), not from the brand. Per kWh, earnings are the same for every car brand. Since 1 January 2026, private users need a charger with a built-in MID meter; public charging earns you no ERE.

Can I charge a Volvo bidirectionally?

Not for the brand as a whole, and only as the source describes it per model. V2L: yes on the Volvo EX30, no on the Volvo EX40, the Volvo EC40 and the Volvo EX90. V2H: no on every model in the data. V2G: no on every model in the data. Volvo EX30: V2L via a free software update since 1 September 2026, also for existing EX30s, with a separately sold adapter in the charge port, up to 3 kW. Volvo does not offer V2H or V2G. Volvo EX40: No V2L, V2H or V2G. Volvo names only the EX60 and future models for bidirectional charging; no update has been announced for the EX40. Volvo EC40: No V2L, V2H or V2G. Volvo names only the EX60 and future models for bidirectional charging; no update has been announced for the EC40. Volvo EX90: No V2L, V2H or V2G in the Netherlands yet, although the hardware is ready for it. Volvo NL names the EX60 and future models for bidirectional charging. Outside the Netherlands: In the US, V2H via DC since 18 November 2025 (2025 EX90 with the dcbel Ara), plus a V2G pilot in Gothenburg. Sources: Volvo Cars Media, Volvo Cars NL, support, Autoblog.nl, ev-database.org, ev-database.org, Volvo Cars US Media. Checked on October 6, 2026.

Does the car brand matter for ERE?

No. ERE depends on the kWh you charge at home and on the provider (the ERE price and the commission), never on the car brand. Per kWh, earnings for a Volvo are the same as for every other brand: 0.33269 ERE per kWh, at €0.460 per ERE (October 18, 2026), after the median commission of 20%, which is €0.122 per kWh. A car with higher consumption (more Wh/km, fewer kilometres per kWh) charges more kWh at the same distance and therefore earns more ERE. That difference comes from the measured consumption, not from the brand.
