# The ERE price: history and outlook to 2030

What is an ERE worth now, and where is the price heading? We show the current market price plus a projection with three scenarios to 2030.

Current price from public sources · projection is indicative, not financial advice

Short answer

As of November 2, 2026, the ERE price is €0.310 per ERE, the median of 5 named sources, with a band from €0.291 to €0.425. Per charged kWh that is €0.103 gross, before commission. There is no official ERE quote. This is the median of the latest price per source. Recent indications are around €0.303 (3 sources, October 27, 2026 to November 2, 2026).

Price and outlook

## ERE price (€ per ERE)

The dot is the current market price from public sources. The lines are projections: a conservative, an expected and an optimistic scenario to 2030.

Current indication: €0.303 (3 sources, October 27, 2026 to November 2, 2026)

Lekkerladen, LIVE KOERS € 0,310 per ERE (November 2, 2026, €0.31); Xolvere, indicatieve marktprijs (October 29, 2026, €0.3033); Joulo, indicatieve LRE-E spotprijs (October 27, 2026, €0.3025). Median of recent price indications from named sources, last 14 days; no realised sales.

1 kWh of grid electricity = 0.33269 ERE. Multiply the price by 0.33269 for the gross reward per kWh.

## Our predictions

Three developments that could steer the ERE price in the coming years.

2027

### Integrated MID meters the norm for all

For private individuals only an integrated MID meter has counted since January 2026; from 1 January 2027 the same applies to businesses that booked with an external meter before 2026. More eligible charge points means more tradable volume - and a steadier price.

2028

### Tighter CO₂ targets

Rising reduction obligations for fuel suppliers increase demand for EREs. Our expected scenario drifts toward a higher price.

2030

### Home charging keeps paying off

Even conservatively home charging stays attractive; in the optimistic scenario the price in 2030 sits clearly above today’s level.

## Where the ERE price comes from

There is no official ERE quote: EREs are traded bilaterally. So we record dated prices from named sources: the S&P Global Platts benchmark, prices providers actually realised, and indications from NEa-registered providers. The current price is the median of the latest price per source (at most six months old). Anonymous sources are shown for reference only.

The current indication is the median of the latest observation per named source. A price indication counts, and a benchmark counts when it has a date. The date has to fall in the last 14 days of the newest observation. A figure with no named source does not count. A realised sale does not count. With fewer than 2 such sources we show no indication.

## How we calculate this

We start from the current, market-wide ERE price from public sources: around €0.31 per ERE (€0.29 to €0.43 band, November 2, 2026). One kWh of grid electricity equals 0.33269 ERE, so that is roughly €0.10 gross per kWh. No public price history exists yet, so we record the price ourselves every week (see the price history). Everything after now is a projection in which we grow the price per scenario. Illustrative - not a market quote and not a promise about future earnings.

From HBE to ERE

## What ERE’s predecessor traded at

Until 2025 the system was called HBE (renewable fuel units). At the switch, 1 HBE became 46 ERE. So the HBE prices below are divided by 46, to compare them directly with today's ERE price. Home charging did not count for HBE; it only does since 2026.

These are wholesale prices for the units themselves. What a charging company kept after costs is not public anywhere. HBE-G is the advanced type; electricity earned HBE-O, which usually traded close to HBE-G.

### How the switch worked

1. 2018 to 2021

Only companies supplying electricity to road vehicles could book HBEs, and only via grid connections dedicated to charging (in practice mostly public charge points). They received 'HBE overig'.

    [Source ↗](https://www.emissieautoriteit.nl/onderwerpen/inboeken-ev/inboeken-hernieuwbare-energie/inboeken-elektriciteit)
2. January 1, 2022

New rules (RED II) from 2022. The decree states that home charging by private individuals is not part of the system: the system rewards the company supplying the energy, and the yield would not outweigh account costs. Requests to admit home charging were rejected because it would mean millions of small bookers.

    [Source ↗](https://zoek.officielebekendmakingen.nl/stb-2021-619.html)
3. June 30, 2025

The NEa sets the conversion factor at 46 ERE per HBE: the 2025 HBE reduction contribution minus the 'beter fossiel' (better fossil) contribution.

    [Source ↗](https://www.emissieautoriteit.nl/actueel/nieuws/2025/06/30/nea-stelt-de-hbe-reductiebijdrage-voor-2026-vast-op-47-kg-hbe)
4. January 1, 2026

The fuel transition obligation with EREs starts and the HBE obligation ends. Since 2026 electricity charged at home qualifies, but private individuals can only book via a booking service provider (inboekdienstverlener).

    [Source ↗](https://www.emissieautoriteit.nl/documenten/2026/02/02/inboeken-elektriciteit-particulieren)
5. March 1, 2026

The NEa took stock on 1 March 2026, the standard booking deadline (year X deliveries until 1 March of X+1), so 2025 deliveries still produced HBEs. Missing double-counting declarations could be added until 31 March 2026.

    [Source ↗](https://www.emissieautoriteit.nl/documenten/2026/03/04/hbe-rapportage-maart-2026)
6. May 1, 2026

Final HBE year-end closing. Until 1 May HBEs counted towards the 2025 obligation. Balances left afterwards were converted at 1 HBE = 46 ERE of the same type, so HBE-O became ERE-O; no ERE-E or ERE-R were created. Aviation HBEs went to the land sector.

### What a kWh earned, then and now

Under HBE, 1 unit stood for 1 gigajoule of renewable energy. From 2022 to 2025: kWh × 0.0036 × the Dutch renewable share × 4. Example: in May 2024 HBE-O traded at €8.70. With that year’s share, 1 kWh at a public charger earned about 5 cents, and only the charging company received it.

Under ERE, 1 kWh charged at home in 2026 earns 0.33269 ERE. At today's ERE price that is €0.103 per kWh before your provider's costs. And that money goes to you.

### What is expected for 2030

- The ministry writes, citing CE Delft, that people charging their electric or hybrid car at home will pay 4 to 12 euro cents less per kWh in 2030. [Source ↗](https://www.eerstekamer.nl/brief_in/20250620/ontwerpbesluit_tot_wijziging_van/f=/vmohaviuo7f6.pdf)
- Not a price but an assumption: PBL assumes only 15% of home-charged electricity is booked in 2030, due to admin burden and the built-in MID meter requirement. Questions

## Frequently asked questions

[More in the knowledge base →](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/knowledge-base/)

What is the ERE price today?

As of November 2, 2026, the ERE price is €0.310 per ERE, the median of 5 named sources, with a band from €0.291 to €0.425. Per charged kWh that is €0.103 gross, before commission. There is no official ERE quote. This is the median of the latest price per source. Recent indications are around €0.303 (3 sources, October 27, 2026 to November 2, 2026).

Why does the price differ between sources?

The ERE price is set by supply and demand and is not fixed centrally. A second registered provider quoted roughly €0.46 per ERE in mid-2026, for example, which is why we show a band rather than a single exact figure.

What does that work out to per kWh?

One kWh of grid electricity legally equals 0.33269 ERE. At a price of €0.31 per ERE that works out to roughly €0.10 gross per kWh charged, before commission.

Who sets the ERE price?

No one sets the price centrally; it forms on the market. The NEa runs the register and the system but does not set the price.

Why is there no historical price chart?

There is no public, dated ERE price history to display. We therefore anchor only the current level and clearly label everything after it as a projection.

Are the price projections reliable?

The scenarios are indicative and meant to give direction, not financial advice or a promise. The actual price may turn out higher or lower.

How many EREs does a kWh produce?

Under the Energy for Transport Regulation grid electricity yields 0.33269 ERE per kWh. One ERE therefore corresponds to roughly 3 kWh of charging.
