Frequently asked questions

# Charging data and registration

Which charging data your provider needs, how it reaches the NEa and what happens to your data.

10 questions

## What charging data does an ERE provider need from me?

An ERE provider needs verifiable per-session charging data: the date, time and number of kWh charged, taken directly from the charge point’s integrated MID meter. A single total consumption figure without the underlying sessions is usually not enough. The provider explains how to export this data or have it linked automatically from your charging app or back office.

## How do I export charging sessions from my charging app?

In most charging apps or back offices you’ll find an export option under “charging sessions” or “history”, often as a CSV or PDF file for a chosen period. Select the period you need and download the overview showing the date, duration and number of kWh per session. If you get stuck, the manufacturer’s customer service or your ERE provider can usually help.

## Is a monthly total enough, or are individual charging sessions needed?

A monthly total alone is usually not enough; the NEa system requires verifiable data per individual charging session, with date, time and kWh. A single monthly figure cannot prove that each session was actually and correctly measured by an integrated MID meter. So make sure your charging app or back office can export sessions individually, not only as a combined total.

## How long do I need to keep my charging data?

No fixed, uniform retention period for private individuals has been published; in practice it’s wise to keep charging sessions for at least as long as your provider’s check and verification period runs, often around a year. It’s better to keep exports longer rather than shorter, especially in case of a later check. Your provider will state which period applies to your contract.

## What happens if charging sessions are missing?

Missing charging sessions simply don’t count for that period; the provider can only register what has been demonstrably and verifiably supplied. This can make ERE earnings for that period lower than expected. So check regularly that your charging app records and exports all sessions completely, and report faults or gaps to your provider or installer as soon as possible.

## Can I register older charging sessions retroactively?

Whether older charging sessions count retroactively differs per provider and depends on how far back the data can still be verifiably exported. Some providers accept data from before signup, others only count sessions from the contract’s start date. Check this in advance with the provider of your choice, especially if you’ve had a suitable charge point for a while already.

## Can the same charging session be registered with two providers?

No, the same charging session may not be registered twice; you’re connected to only one provider at a time for registering your charging data. Double registration would mean double-counting CO₂ reduction, which isn’t allowed under the NEa system. If you switch to another provider, this generally only applies to sessions from the new connection date onward.

## How does a provider check whether my charging data is correct?

A provider generally checks whether the supplied data comes from an integrated MID meter, whether the sessions are consistent and plausible in timing and volume, and whether the link to your charge point and connection is correct. Some providers ask for additional proof, such as an installation certificate. The exact verification steps differ per provider and are not always fully public.

## What happens to my data if I switch charge points?

If you switch charge points, you’ll need to have the new charge point and meter relinked with your provider, including a fresh check for an integrated MID meter. Data from the old charge point generally remains valid for the period it was active and correctly supplied. Always report a switch to your provider promptly to ensure a seamless transition.

## Can I check my registered kWh myself?

Yes, in most cases you can find your registered kWh yourself in your provider’s customer portal or in your charging app, where the submitted sessions are often visible. If the figures don’t match your own export, contact your provider. Checking it yourself helps catch discrepancies early, before the annual processing and payout.
