# Charger ready for ERE? Checklist for your own installation

Check your own installation for ERE: MID marking or certificate, charging sessions in kWh, ownership of the connection and a charger in the Netherlands.

[By the ERE Team](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/about/) · Last checked October 18, 2026 · 5 min read

In short

- For private individuals, a charge point is MID-suitable when the MID-certified meter is integrated in it; a meter in the meter cabinet does not count.
- For ERE, check the brand and model, the MID marking or certificate, kWh session export, ownership of the connection and a location in the Netherlands.
- Since January 2026, a home charge point without an integrated MID meter does not qualify, unless the grid operator has created an exclusive allocation point.
- The 1 January 2027 date only applies to businesses already booking with an external meter before 2026; home charging has no transition year.

Before you spend time on an application with an ERE provider, it’s smart to check whether your charge point qualifies. For private individuals, an integrated MID meter is usually the decisive condition.

**Does your charger have a MID meter?** Look your model up in the overview [which chargers have a MID meter](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/which-chargers-have-a-mid-meter/), with the source for each model. It also explains [how to know whether your charger has a MID meter](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/which-chargers-have-a-mid-meter/#controleren). This checklist covers the rest of your own installation: what do you go through before you sign up?

## Why a MID meter?

The NEa checks whether the electricity was demonstrably delivered to transport. That check uses the grid operator’s register, not the energy contract. That is on the page [Inboeken elektriciteit](https://www.emissieautoriteit.nl/regelgeving/hernieuwbare-energie-voor-vervoer-eres/inboeken-hernieuwbare-energie-vervoer/inboeken-elektriciteit), read on 15 October 2026. An integrated, MID-certified meter inside the charge point measures the kWh at the delivery point. A [separate meter in the meter cabinet](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/knowledge-base/ere-zonder-mid-meter-uitzondering/) does not count for private individuals. Which EAN belongs on the mandate is in [Why you need your EAN code](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/knowledge-base/ean-code-voor-ere/).

## The checklist

- **Brand and model.** Look your model up in the [overview of chargers with a MID meter](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/which-chargers-have-a-mid-meter/). Not every model of a brand is the same.
- **MID marking.** Can you show the metrology marking (the capital M with the last two digits of the year) or the certificate? The marking is often on the type plate. The directive does not require the word MID there.
- **Session data.** Can you [export your charging sessions in kWh](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/knowledge-base/laadsessies-exporteren-voor-ere/), for example via the app or the provider’s back office?
- **Connection.** Do you own the grid connection at the address?
- **Location.** Is the charge point located in the Netherlands?

Can you answer “yes” to most points? Then there’s a good chance you qualify.

## Note: the 1 January 2027 date does not apply to home charging

For private individuals, the MID meter has had to be integrated in the charge point since January 2026; there is no transition year for you. The 1 January 2027 date only applies to [businesses that were already booking with an external meter before 2026](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/knowledge-base/ere-zakelijke-laadpunten/): from then on, a MID meter outside the charge point no longer counts for them either. If your home charge point has no integrated MID meter, you already don’t qualify today - unless the grid operator has set up an exclusive allocation point behind which only the charge point draws power. So factor in replacement if you want to receive ERE income.

## Which meter has to sit in your charger

For private individuals the MID meter has had to be integrated in the charger since January 2026. The electricity page writes: “Let op: bij particulieren moet de MID-meter altijd geïntegreerd zijn. Voor hen geldt geen overgangsjaar” (for private individuals the MID meter must always be integrated; there is no transition year for them). Businesses that booked before 2026 with an external meter have 2026 as a year in which the NEa does not enforce that point.

The FAQ [Hoe toon ik aan dat mijn meter MID-gecertificeerd is?](https://www.emissieautoriteit.nl/vraag-en-antwoord/faq-he/hoe-toon-ik-aan-dat-mijn-meter-mid-gecertificeerd-is), read on 15 October 2026, still speaks of HBEs. It names two proofs: a certificate of a conformity assessment by a notified body, or an EU declaration of conformity from the manufacturer. That declaration should carry the name and number of the notified body, the procedure (B+F, B+D or H1), the certificate number, the date, and the serial or type number. The declaration must have been issued within the certificate’s validity and is then valid for the life of the meter. The NEa FAQ names Directive 2024/32/EU here. That number is not on EUR-Lex. The marking is in [Directive 2014/32/EU](https://eur-lex.europa.eu/legal-content/EN/TXT/?uri=CELEX:32014L0032): the capital letter M and the last two digits of the year, in a rectangle, immediately after the CE marking. How to find that on your charger is under [where to find the MID marking on your charger](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/which-chargers-have-a-mid-meter/#controleren). An accuracy class, such as A, B or C, is not in this FAQ and not on the electricity page.

## Still unsure?

The definitive assessment is done by the [ERE provider](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/knowledge-base/nea-rev-inboekdienstverlener-rollen/). Look your model up in the [overview of chargers with a MID meter](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/which-chargers-have-a-mid-meter/) and do the [charger check](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/charger-check/). Both give an indication based on public sources. After that, compare the providers that suit your situation.
