# Energy suppliers now pay you to charge at home. What do you keep?

Tibber, Frank Energie, Zonneplan and Vattenfall now pass on part of the ERE value of home charging. What they deduct, when they pay and where the catch lies.

Energy supplier Providers

In short

- You get a share of the ERE value of your home-charged kWh; the supplier or its partner deducts 10% to 25%.
- Tibber customers pay Joulo 10% and Frank Energie customers at most 10% according to Joulo; Zonneplan deducts 20% and credits your energy bill.
- Vattenfall deducts 25%, requires an Autel charge point and a €6.95 monthly subscription, and pays out around June of the following year.
- The deal is tied to your energy contract: switching costs you the discount or, at Vattenfall, the proceeds of the current year.

Charge at home with a MID-certified charge point? Your energy supplier now wants to pay you for it. Tibber, Frank Energie, Zonneplan and Vattenfall have an ERE programme, while Essent and Eneco eMobility are getting ready. On 16 September, Frank Energie even calculated that home charging earns its customers over €420 a year, based on an average of 3,000 kWh.

It isn’t free money, though: you get a share of the value of your own charging data. Since 1 January 2026, a registration service provider (inboekdienstverlener) may register your home-charged kWh with the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa). That generates emission reduction units (EREs), which fuel suppliers buy. Your energy supplier, or the partner behind it, keeps part of the proceeds. How much, and on what terms, is in the small print.

## Who pays what?

| Supplier | Deduction | Payout | The catch |
| --- | --- | --- | --- |
| Tibber (via Joulo) | 10% (Joulo standard: 20%) | Quarterly | Tibber customers only |
| Frank Energie (via Joulo) | At most 10%, according to Joulo | Quarterly | Percentage stated only by Joulo |
| Zonneplan (ERE charging bonus) | 20% (80% to you) | Credited to your energy bill | Energy contract required; website and terms disagree on how often |
| Vattenfall (Thuislaadcashback) | 25%, minimum €0.05 per kWh in 2026 | Around June of the following year | Electricity contract, subscription and Autel charge point required; stop mid-year and that year is lost |
| Essent | Not yet known | Not yet known | Waiting list only; Essent charge point required |
| Eneco eMobility | Not yet known | Expected around April/May 2027 | Pre-registration only |

## Tibber and Frank Energie: a discount via Joulo

Both suppliers leave registration and payout to [Joulo](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/providers/joulo/). Tibber customers pay a 10% service fee instead of the usual 20%. Frank Energie confirmed the partnership on 16 September in its own news post: quarterly payouts and, by its own account, about 14 cents net per charged kWh. The at-most-10% rate is stated only by Joulo, on its page for Frank customers.

That 14 cents is a snapshot. The [median of named sources](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/ere-price/) (€0.460 per ERE, as of 18 October 2026) works out at roughly 15.3 cents gross per kWh (0.33269 × €0.460); after a 10% deduction, about 13.8 cents is left. If the ERE price moves, that amount moves with it. And the discount only lasts while you stay a customer: switch, and your Joulo registration continues, but under Joulo’s terms the standard rate applies again from the next quarter.

Also note article 5.13 of Joulo’s terms: if a charge-point brand charges for access to your charging data, Joulo may pass that fee on one-to-one, listed separately and announced a month ahead. If it leaves you worse off, you can cancel for free.

## Zonneplan and Vattenfall: via your bill, or next year

With Zonneplan’s ERE charging bonus, 80% of the proceeds go to you and 20% to the services of Zonneplan and Lekkerladen. The bonus is credited to your energy bill, so you must be a Zonneplan Energie customer. How often is unclear: the website offers quarterly or annually, the ERE terms of 15 September 2026 say once a year. Ask before you sign up.

[Vattenfall](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/providers/vattenfall/) deducts 25% and guarantees at least €0.05 per home-charged kWh for 2026. That floor only matters if the ERE price falls below roughly €0.20 per ERE. You need a Vattenfall electricity contract, a charging subscription of €6.95 a month (€83.40 a year) and an Autel MaxiCharger. Stop within the year and you receive nothing for that year.

## Convenience versus lock-in

A supplier deal can be convenient: one app, sometimes one bill or a lower deduction. The flip side:

- **Lock-in** - your ERE deal is tied to your energy contract. Switching costs you the discount or, at Vattenfall, the proceeds of the current year.
- **Costs** - deductions run from 10% to 25%, and a mandatory subscription comes off your earnings.
- **Payout** - quarterly, via your energy bill, or only months after the year ends.
- **One provider per year** - you can authorise only one registration service provider per calendar year. Already signed up elsewhere for 2026? Then you can only switch for 2027.

If you often switch energy supplier, an ERE deal that is separate from your energy contract is less exposed. If you stay put, a supplier deal can work out well. ## How to check the small print yourself

The [comparison](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/compare/) now shows a trust score for every provider (0 to 10, based on 18 checks of public information) and a hidden-fees check: costs that are not shown next to the rate but only in the terms. To see what you keep net, use the [earnings calculator](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/earnings-calculator/). EREVergelijken does not accept paid placement; always confirm the current terms with the provider itself.

## Frequently asked questions

Is an ERE reward from your energy supplier free money?

No. You get a share of the proceeds from the EREs that your home-charged kWh generate. The supplier or its partner deducts 10% to 25%, and sometimes you need a mandatory subscription, such as Vattenfall’s charging subscription at €6.95 a month.

What happens to my ERE reward if I switch to a different energy supplier?

At Tibber and Frank Energie, your registration with Joulo continues, but the discount lapses and Joulo’s standard rate applies again. At Vattenfall, Thuislaadcashback stops and you receive no cashback for that year. An ERE deal that is separate from your energy contract simply carries on.

When do I get my ERE money through my energy supplier?

It depends on the programme. Via Joulo (Tibber and Frank Energie) you are paid quarterly. Zonneplan credits the bonus to your energy bill; its website says quarterly or annually, its terms of 15 September 2026 say once a year. Vattenfall pays around June of the following year, and Eneco eMobility expects its first payouts around April/May 2027.
