Joulo is one of the largest ERE providers in the Netherlands; according to Joulo itself it has more than 24,500 customers. Between 26 September and 6 October Joulo changed its terms and explanations four times. Part of that followed after Joulo responded to our assessment. We like to see that: a provider that improves its terms for customers makes the whole market fairer.

We checked the new versions with the same 18 rules we use for every provider. This is what improved.

## 1\. Better protection against a price increase

Joulo charges a 20% service fee. An increase never takes effect during the current calendar year: Joulo announces it by 31 October and it only applies from 1 January. Since 6 October the terms also say that an increase **only applies to kWh measured from that 1 January**. What you charged before is settled at the old rate, also if those kWh are booked later and also if you cancel (art. 5.7 and 10.5). On top of that you can cancel free of charge before any change against you takes effect (art. 11.2).

## 2\. Payouts without an approval step

Until late September Joulo’s knowledge base and blog said you had to check and approve each amount in your dashboard. That is gone. Now you get a message that your amount is ready and Joulo transfers it to the IBAN in your profile. There is no minimum amount and Joulo pays out quarterly.

## 3\. A brand fee gets the same protection

Some charger makers charge for access to your charging data. Joulo calls that a brand fee, considers it not allowed under the European Data Act and contests it. Should Joulo still have to pass such a fee on, the same rules as for a price increase apply since 6 October: never in the current year, announced by 31 October at the latest, only for kWh from 1 January, and you can cancel and switch free of charge until 31 December (art. 5.13). On 6 October Joulo passed nothing on.

## 4\. Every sale is public

Joulo publishes every ERE sale with price, volume and broker in a [public sales log](https://joulo.nl/ere-verkopen). That makes the market easier to follow for everyone; we also use it for our [ERE price](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/ere-price/). The latest published sales were on 29 September: €0.4225 and €0.425 per ERE, €0.424 together by volume.

## For businesses and owners’ associations

From 31 October the mandatory verification costs businesses €48 or €180 per connection a year, depending on volume. For an owners’ association (VvE) it is a one-off €150.

## The new trust score

With these changes [Joulo’s trust score](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/providers/joulo/) went from 5.7 to **6.6**. Tibber and Frank Energie use Joulo’s terms and got the same improvements: their score went from 7.0 to **7.5**.

On 6 October two points still counted, under the same rules as for other providers:

- **Cancelling takes effect at the end of the calendar year.** You can always cancel free of charge, but the agreement only ends on 31 December; until then Joulo keeps booking and paying out your kWh. Joulo points out that under NEa rules switching is only possible from 1 January anyway. Our check looks at whether you can stop within a month after the first year, also when you are not switching but, for example, selling your car.
- **A brand fee on top of the 20% remains possible.** Even though it is protected and nothing is passed on now, the terms allow it. The calculator does not yet mention that condition next to the price.

Every point, with its source and article number, is on [Joulo’s page](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/providers/joulo/). Each change is listed there with its date in the change log.

## Update 7 October 2026

On 7 October 2026 Joulo changed article 5.13 and article 10.3. Both appear in the change overview and took effect immediately.

Every cost of retrieving charging-session data falls under the service fee. That includes a fee a manufacturer or operator of charge points asks for access to that data (art. 5.13). For private customers there is no longer an extra cost on top of the service fee.

When cancelling you can, also in the first year, choose an immediate termination free of charge. The agreement and the mandate then end at the latest one month after Joulo has received the cancellation (art. 10.3). Charging sessions up to that date are still booked and paid out net. If you do not choose that termination, the cancellation takes effect on 31 December.

Switching to another provider still only works from 1 January, because the NEa allows one booking service provider per EAN per calendar year (art. 10.6). After an immediate termination nobody can book the rest of that year’s kWh for that EAN.

Under the same 18 checks Joulo’s trust score is now 9.0 (was 6.6). Tibber and Frank Energie, which use these terms, are at 8.9 (was 6.5). GridCredits books through Joulo: that score went from 7.1 to 7.5. The checks on age and backing stay no, because those follow the youngest link in the chain.

## Why we show this

EREVergelijken is independent: no provider pays for a place or a score. When a provider changes its terms, we check it and put it on the site with a date, whether it gets better or worse. Providers can always send us changes or corrections through [the contact form](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/contact/). All other changes of early October are in our [October overview](https://erevergelijken.eu/en/news/ere-aanbieders-wijzigingen-oktober-2026/).
