Who holds the ERE when an operator runs your charger

A charge point operator cannot book electricity from a home connection on a company account. The account is opened in the name of the customer on the main connection.

If an operator runs the charger, the name on the main connection decides who can book. The NEa does not say the ERE belongs to the operator because that party controls the charger. The account is in the name of the customer on the main connection. This page sets out three NEa answers, read on 15 October 2026. It does not list operators that would or would not fit: no such list was found on an NEa page.

A charger at home does not go on a company account

The FAQ Ik heb thuis een laadpaal, kan ik hiermee geleverde elektriciteit inboeken op de rekening van mijn bedrijf? says the connection at home is in the name of a household or a private person, not in the name of a company. Electricity from that charger therefore cannot be booked on the company account.

Another party, such as a CPO (charge point operator) or an energy supplier, also cannot book the electricity delivered from a home connection. The only exception the FAQ names is a sole proprietorship that belongs to the private person in whose name the connection stands, because a sole proprietorship and a natural person are treated as the same person in legal dealings.

For the household itself, registration runs through a registration provider, with the connection in your name. That is in the leaflet for private individuals and on Why you need your EAN code.

Chargers on the company’s own site

The FAQ Ik heb enkele laadpalen op mijn bedrijfslocatie. Kan ik inboeken? says any company can book if the statutory requirements are met: the booker is the customer, and there are MID sales meters or an exclusive connection.

Booking is voluntary. The FAQ does name the responsibility that comes with it. The booker must know the requirements. A booking verification must take place every year, and that costs money. The company must have a sound administrative organisation. The NEa is authorised to enforce. The FAQ states no euro amount for that verification. What an NEa account itself costs is under NEa, REV and registration provider.

Whether you open an account yourself or mandate a registration provider depends on the threshold in article 9. That is set out under business charge points.

The account stays in the customer’s name

The FAQ Kan ik een ander bedrijf machtigen om mijn elektriciteit in te boeken? says an account is always opened in the name of the company that holds the main connections, the customer. The customer can add employees of another company, such as a service provider, as users on that account. In practice the service provider can then carry out the booking and verification steps.

That is different from putting electricity from a home connection on a company account. And it is different from a household mandate to a registration provider: that mandate is per calendar year and per EAN, as on the switching page.

At a shared HOA charging hub the same name rule applies. The NEa says an HOA can qualify if the main connection is in the HOA’s name and electricity is delivered to transport at that location. Who then registers, and how any proceeds are split, is not a distribution key in that FAQ. That is in ERE for an HOA charging hub.
