In short

Dynamic and an EV: how it works

  1. 01

    What is dynamic?

Your electricity price follows the day-ahead market and changes every hour or quarter-hour. On top you pay the supplier’s markup, energy tax and VAT.

  2. 02

    Why with an EV?

A car often sits on the charger for hours. Let it charge in the cheap hours, usually at night or around midday, and you pay less per kWh.

  3. 03

    ERE is separate

You earn ERE on every kWh the MID meter in your charger measures, whichever supplier you use. Some suppliers have their own ERE deal that only applies with their contract.

How to read this comparison

  • We list every supplier with a dynamic electricity contract for consumers, alphabetically. Nobody pays for a place.
  • All amounts come from the supplier’s own tariff and product pages, incl. VAT, with a source and check date. If something is not public, we show “Unknown”.
  • What you pay per kWh depends mostly on when you use power, not on the supplier. That is why we only compare what the supplier itself charges.

Questions

Questions about dynamic contracts

What is a dynamic energy contract?

With a dynamic contract your electricity price follows the day-ahead market and changes every hour or quarter-hour. On top you pay the supplier’s markup and fixed fee, energy tax and VAT. This page lists 59 suppliers with a dynamic contract for consumers.

Does a dynamic contract pay off with an electric car?

That depends on when you charge. Over the last 12 months a kWh charged in the evening (6 to 10 pm) cost €0.308 on average and smart charging in the 4 cheapest hours of the day €0.183, including energy tax, VAT and the median markup. If you mostly charge in the evening, you pay more per kWh.

What does a dynamic contract cost at the supplier itself?

The median markup is €0.020 per kWh and the median fixed fee is €7.37 per month. At 5,130 kWh a year (an average household plus home charging) the supplier cost runs from €157 to €422 a year, excluding energy tax and grid costs.

Do I get ERE payments with a dynamic contract?

Yes. ERE is separate from your energy contract: you earn it for every kWh the MID meter in your charger measures, whichever supplier you use. 6 of the 59 suppliers have their own ERE deal that only applies with their contract. You can also choose a separate ERE provider.

Which suppliers offer smart charging?

23 of the 59 suppliers offer smart charging: the car then charges in the cheapest hours by itself. Each supplier’s card above shows how it works, with a source.
