Greener charging and driving
Independent, and every figure with a source. We do not call one supplier greener than another: an electricity label is about certificates, not a ranking.
An ERE (emission reduction unit) is the unit in which renewable energy for transport is recorded, according to the NEa, Hernieuwbare energie voor vervoer (ERE).

Questions
Questions about greener charging
How do I charge and drive as greenly as I can?
Charge in the hours with a high renewable share of load on the national grid: on October 21, 2026 those hours are 11:00 to 14:00 and 23:00 to 24:00, a forecast and not a measurement (Energy-Charts, Fraunhofer ISE). Pick a supplier whose electricity label shows renewable electricity with Dutch guarantees of origin, if that matters to you: for 40 household suppliers the electricity is 100% renewable, and for 18 it is also 100% backed by Dutch guarantees of origin (electricity label, October 13, 2026). Lower consumption means fewer kWh: the calculator uses 18.7 kWh per 100 km, and at 15,000 km a year without a green contract that is 561 kg CO2 well-to-wheel (CBS, 2024).
Is a high renewable share the same as a green contract?
No. The renewable share is the share of load on the national grid (Energy-Charts, Fraunhofer ISE). An electricity label describes certificates for the volume sold, not the electrons from the socket. That follows from the Energy Act, article 2.7. A green contract sets the calculator, for the share you charge at home, to 0 kg CO2 per kWh (CO2 emission factors 2026, wind and solar, total column). It does not change the physical mix.
How much CO2 does the calculator show at its defaults?
At 15,000 km, 18.7 kWh per 100 km, petrol and a 0% green contract, an electric car emits 0 kg at the tailpipe and 561 kg CO2 well-to-wheel. The electricity factor is 0.20 kg CO2 per kWh produced in 2024 (integral method, CBS, December 5, 2025). Against Benzine Middel that is 2,379 kg less well-to-wheel. The battery counts once, at 2,700 kg CO2-equivalent (ICCT 2021).
What is an ERE?
An ERE (emission reduction unit) is the unit in which the Dutch Emissions Authority records renewable energy for transport. The regulation counts renewable electricity delivered to transport toward the obligation of fuel suppliers. In that accounting, one ERE is 1 kg of emission reduction against the fossil reference. Source: NEa, Hernieuwbare energie voor vervoer (ERE), and the Regeling energie vervoer.
Does a home battery pay if I want to use more of my solar power?
Every independent study on the home battery page reaches the same conclusion: on self-use alone a home battery rarely pays back within its lifetime. That page compares 34 batteries, checked on October 6, 2026. One exported kWh earns 0.25 to 4.1 cents per kWh on the published fixed contracts for 2027 (Consumentenbond, Terugleverkosten energieleveranciers, rates of September 23, 2026).
Can my car supply power back to my home?
None of the 62 models can power your home in the Netherlands (V2H). Of the 62 models on the bidirectional charging page: 37 models can power devices (V2L), and 1 model feeds the grid (V2G). Feeding power back does not earn ERE: the Regeling energie vervoer (Art. 9) does not book power returned from the vehicle. Checked on October 6, 2026.
