Is my charge point MID-suitable for ERE? The home-charging checklist

Before you spend time on an application with an ERE provider, it’s smart to check whether your charge point qualifies. For private individuals, an integrated MID meter is usually the decisive condition.

Why a MID meter?

The NEa wants to verify that the reported kWh were genuinely charged through your connection and energy contract. An integrated, MID-certified meter inside the charge point measures this reliably and fraud-resistantly. A separate meter in the meter cabinet does not count for private individuals.

The checklist

• Brand and model. Check whether your specific model has an integrated MID meter. Not every model of a brand is the same.
• MID marking. Can you demonstrate the MID marking or certificate? It’s often on the type plate.
• Session data. Can you export your charging sessions in kWh, for example via the app or the provider’s back office?
• Connection. Do you own the grid connection at the address?
• Location. Is the charge point located in the Netherlands?

Can you answer “yes” to most points? Then there’s a good chance you qualify.

Watch the 1 January 2027 date

For business situations with an external meter there is a transition period. From 1 January 2027, constructions with a MID meter outside the charge point no longer count. If you have a charge point without an integrated MID meter, factor in replacement if you want to keep ERE income.
