The worked example. What a card costs per month on top of the charge point’s price, at 100 kWh in 8 sessions at regular public chargers of €0.44 per kWh (the tariff of the municipal TotalEnergies chargers in Amsterdam). If a card sets its own price per charger, you cannot work this out up front: we show that honestly as “Per charger”.

How the card score works

Nine public checks, the same for every card

The card score (0 to 10) shows how cheap, clear and usable a charging card is. Anything not public earns 0 points. A card that is not taking new customers scores 0. A brand-bound card can be fine for drivers of that brand, but is not in the top 3. Apps labelled “Own network only” get no score: an app that works on one network cannot be compared fairly with a charging card on coverage.

How this comparison is made

We only take amounts from the providers’ own tariff, product and terms pages, with a source and check date per card.
Many cards charge their own price per charger that you only see in the app. We call that “Per charger”; we do not estimate those prices.
Under the EU AFIR regulation (Art. 5(5)) charging card providers must show the full price before you start charging, including roaming costs and their own fees.
