How it works

From charger to money in your account

  1. You charge at home

With a charger that has a built-in MID meter, which measures the electricity going into your car.

  2. You choose a provider

You sign a mandate. The provider collects your charging data, often automatically.

  3. A registration service provider books

The provider itself or a partner books your kWh with the NEa, in the REV registry. That creates ERE units.

  4. The ERE units are sold

Fuel suppliers must buy ERE units. You receive the proceeds minus costs.

Costs

What does a registration service provider cost?

Each dot is a provider with a fixed commission. The line is the median: 20%. Providers with different pricing (a fixed amount per year or per kWh) are not in the chart but are in the explorer.

What changes at the NEa

The NEa list lapses

The list of registration service providers (version of 7 August 2026) lapses from October 2026. The NEa then plans to publish an overview of REV account holders. Until that exists, we use the list of 7 August.

NEa ↗

200 mandates needed

A registration service provider needs at least 200 mandates or 2 million kWh a year for a REV account it can book with. New providers that do not meet that yet are shown as pre-registration.

Regeling energie vervoer, art. 9 ↗

One party per year

Only one registration service provider may book your charge point per calendar year, so switching only works from 1 January. Check the notice period before you sign.

Choosing

Five questions before you sign

  1. Who books: the brand itself or a partner? And is that party known to the NEa?
  2. How much commission and which fixed costs (verification, subscription) do you pay, and is that incl. or excl. VAT?
  3. When do they pay out, and is it automatic or do you have to request it?
  4. How long does the contract run and when can you cancel?
  5. Can the provider collect your charging data automatically from your charger brand?

Questions

Questions about registration service providers

What is a registration service provider (inboekdienstverlener)?

A registration service provider books the electricity you charge at home with the Dutch Emissions Authority (NEa), in the Energy for Transport Registry (REV), on your behalf. That earns emission reduction units (ERE), which the provider sells to fuel suppliers. You receive the proceeds minus costs. As a private person you cannot register yourself.

What does a registration service provider cost?

Usually a percentage of the proceeds. Among the 41 providers we compare, the commission ranges from 9.5% to 27.5%, with 20% in the middle. Some also charge fixed costs, for example for the mandatory verification. Each provider's costs are in the comparison.

Which registration service provider is best?

That depends on what matters to you: what you keep, how often they pay out and how clear the terms are. The explorer on this page shows roughly what you keep with each provider at your kWh. Our trust score checks every provider on the same 18 public points.

Is an ERE provider the same as a registration service provider?

Not always. Many providers book themselves, but 11 of the 41 brands have a partner do the booking. Joulo, for example, books for 3 brands. Your contract is with the brand; the partner does the work at the NEa.

Does anything change in 2026?

Yes. The NEa retires its list of registration service providers from October 2026 and plans to publish an overview of REV account holders instead. To book, a registration service provider needs at least 200 mandates or 2 million kWh a year under the Regeling energie vervoer. New providers that do not meet that yet are shown as pre-registration on our site.

Can I switch to another registration service provider?

Yes, but only one party may register your charge point per calendar year, so switching works from 1 January. Check the notice period in your current contract.
