Cost models

How the costs are built

Each group below comes from the published rates. The names are the providers that use that model.

Commission in percent

A percentage of the ERE proceeds. 37 providers publish a percentage like that, without a minimum or maximum in euros per year. At Lekkerladen the percentage depends on how much you charge. At Vattenfall the percentage comes with a minimum per kWh.

Commission with a minimum or a maximum

A percentage of the proceeds, with a minimum or a maximum in euros per year. The commission is that percentage, but not below a published minimum and not above a published maximum.

Fixed fee per year

A fixed amount per year, or a fixed price per kWh, instead of a percentage. No provider in this comparison publishes a rate like that.

Fixed fee or commission

Rate not published

At 3 providers the rate is not published. They are still in the table, without a net amount.

14 providers mention verification or audit costs, or a higher percentage if you supply the meter readings yourself. The quotation is the provider's own text.

The Extra costs column is the text on the provider page under Extra costs. The net amounts are an indication at the ERE price on this site, after the published headline rate. A minimum or maximum on the commission is included. Other costs from the terms, without a fixed amount in that calculation, are not included. Where the rate is not published, there is no net amount.

2 other offers belong to a provider already in this table. They appear in the comparison directly under that provider.

Hidden fees

Costs that appear only in the terms

The trust score has a Hidden fees pillar. It counts extra costs that appear only in the terms, not next to the headline rate. That is 14 of the 41 providers with a score. The lists above are a different count: they follow the text in which a provider mentions verification, meter readings or costs at sale.

Questions

Common questions

What does ERE registration cost?

Among the 41 providers we compare, most charge a commission between 9.5% and 27.5% (median 20%); some also charge extra costs. At 5,000 kWh a year you keep about € 374 to € 467 at the published headline rate, for the providers that publish a rate.

Is ERE registration free?

No. None of the 41 providers publishes a 0% commission or a fixed amount of € 0. Commission runs from 9.5% to 27.5%. At 2 providers, signing up is free or there is no entry fee. The commission or other costs still apply.

Which is better: a commission or a fixed fee?

That depends on how much you charge. A percentage keeps the same share, however much you charge. A fixed amount per year weighs more when you charge little, and less when you charge a lot. In this comparison 38 providers charge a percentage. No provider publishes a fixed amount per year or a fixed price per kWh.

Fixed fee or commission

What are hidden costs?

Extra costs that are not next to the headline rate. At 14 of the 41 providers with a trust score, those costs appear only in the terms. The Hidden fees pillar of the trust score checks that.

Research into hidden costsHidden fees pillar

How much do I keep at 5,000 kWh?

About € 374 to € 467 at the published headline rate. The table also shows 3,000 kWh and 10,000 kWh. This is an indication, not a guaranteed amount. Costs without a fixed amount in that calculation are not included.
